The Oltralpe storage unit was presented at the Salone del Mobile, held in Milan from 7 to 12 June 2022, at the Glas Italia stand. This Italian design company is internationally recognized for its innovative and exceptionally made products.
The storage unit, designed and engineered by the designer Inga Sempè, owes its distinctive feature to a mirror finish, both external and internal. It is in fact made entirely of reflective, mirrored glass.
The bottom, top and back side of the unit has been made of laminated glass with mirror coatings on both sides and the door has been made of curved and toughened reflective glass with mirror effect on both sides.
The idea and design of this cabinet met no limitations thanks to the use of Pilkington
Mirropane™ Chrome Plus.
The unusual effect of undefined reflections, thanks to which the material is elusive and optically fluid, was achieved due to certain features of the product. The reflective coating and its high resistance made it possible to create an object with a double radius of curvature. In addition, metal profiles for sealing glass doors have been avoided in favour of minimal fixing points.
The effect of expanding the surrounding space is emphasized and enhanced by the use of reflective glass also inside the cabinet, creating shelves and a back wall.
