Equal parts of Pilkington Energy Advantage™ and Pilkington Activ™ Clear were used for the dome covering the renovated Robson Square ice rink in the heart of downtown Vancouver, in part for the 2010 Winter Olympics. The Robson Ice Rink was renamed GE Plaza after its principal sponsors General Electric.
The glass dome itself had to keep the heat out to prevent the ice from melting, but let in as much light as possible for the skaters. The solution chosen by lead architects Clive Grout was a laminated unit with an outer layer of Pilkington Activ™ Clear, offering both self-cleaning and solar control properties, with an inner layer of Pilkington Energy Advantage™.
