SSOE Inc. Headquarters

The Project

The architectural & engineering firm SSOE Inc. used Pilkington Pyrostop® for part of their building renovation. The 1-hour fire resistance rated glass improved the heating profile of the building, decreased the amount of noise entering and leaving the upstairs office area and even simplified the fire safety regulations for the building.

SSOE was looking for an alternative to an old railing and fire-rated shutter on its third floor overlooking an atrium.

SSOE was looking for a novel solution, so they replaced the fire-rated shutter with Pilkington Pyrostop® fire rated glass to provide continuous passive fire protection.  The railing and shutter were removed and the clear fire-rated Pilkington Pyrostop® fire-resistance glass was installing floor to ceiling.

Pilkington Pyrostop® fire resistance glass installed in a fire rated frame passes the ASTM E 119 test standard which gives it a UL listing for transparent wall applications which was perfect for this application.

Pilkington Pyrostop® fire rated glass provides a physically robust clear fire resistant shield in combination with the high quality through-vision and natural lighting typical of normal glazing.

For this project, the Pilkington Pyrostop® fire rated glass solution provided SSOE with a rating of 60 minutes of fire resistance.  Along with its fire resistance properties, the glass allows more natural light to enter the SSOE building. The Pilkington Pyrostop® fire resistance glass, installed with a UL listed fire-resistance frame from Technical Glass Products, opened up the space and provided a place where the architects and engineers can enjoy the natural lighting from the large opening.
