Zaułek Onyx, Cracow, Poland

The Project
Zaułek Onyx is an exclusive complex of semi-detached houses in Wola Justowska – an old residential district of Cracow. The project was designed by the team of architects from the Buma Building System company in co-operation with the nsMoonStudio architects.

The houses are immediately visible. From the foundations to the roof, the buildings are covered with ecological tiles in a graphite shade. The only colourful accent is the entrance door painted in contrasting colours – different in each house.

The monotony of the body is also broken by extensive glazing, which introduces a lot of natural light into the interior. Each house is also adjoined by rectangular glazed cubes, which are an extension of the living room area.

The glazing was made of Pilkington Insulight™ Protect insulating glass units made of 12 mm thick Pilkington Optifloat™ Clear T and Pilkington Optilam™ Therm S3 9,5 low-emissivity laminated glass. The combination provides required mechanical strength, safety and energy efficiency.

Large glazed surfaces of the cubical bay windows attached to the main body of the house provide the people in the living room a feeling of coming into direct contact with nature.
