The Rabobank Knowledge Centre in Merum, which is part of the municipality of Roermond, was designed by Engelman Architecten.
The idea was to create a knowledge centre and office building for the newly merged bank formed from the amalgamation of two Rabobanks: Roermond and Echt. The municipality planned a striking, tall building at the entrance to the A73 motorway on the newly developed industrial estate to the south of Roermond.
The centre, which also serves as the company's head office, became operational in 2012.
The architecturally impressive building sets a trend in terms of sustainability. Its sloping facades are designed to harness passive solar energy. Pilkington Insulight™ with ScreenLine® was chosen to prevent screen reflections. The position of the sun can also be utilised to heat or cool the building in both summer and winter.
Furthermore, heat and cold are generated in the ground, and sustainable materials have been used throughout the building. This striking seven-storey office building is 32 metres high and can accommodate more than 200 employees.
