The new building of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw is the result of the modernization and expansion of the historic university building. Open courtyard and a large number of full-height glazing harmoniously combine historic architecture with a modern form of artistic facilities. Appropriately selected glass configuration for windows allowed to achieve the desired visual effect, while meeting the functional requirements in terms of energy standard, safety and noise protection.
To achieve high level of thermal insulation, safety and high level of light transmittance, architects decided to use Pilkington Insulight™ Protect units made of clear toughened glass Pilkington Optifloat™ and laminated glass Pilkington Optilam™ Therm S3 with low-e coating. It allowed to achieve Ug-value of 1.1 W/m²K reducing heat loss and energy consumption.
Depending on the size and location of the glass unit, the toughened glass of different thicknesses: 6 mm, 8 mm and 15 mm was used. Laminated glass provided an additional sound barrier, limiting noise pollution from outside and allowing comfortable work in silence.
