Building 11 is a recently renovated and expanded technology building of the Rohde & Schwarz technology group. The building impresses with its attractive appearance and striking façade made of high-performance solar control glass.
The architects from RKW Architektur + from Düsseldorf were looking for solar control glass with a neutral appearance, high light transmittance and not too high light reflectance. In addition, low solar heat gain and very good thermal insulation were required. These requirements have been met by Pilkington Suncool™ 66/33 high performance solar control glass used in triple glazed insulating glass units made by Flachglas Wernberg. The unit achieved light transmittance of over 60% with a total solar energy transmittance of 33% and Ug value of 0.6 W/m²K.
The facade built by Schindler Fenster + Fassaden GmbH was designed as a special aluminium element facade made of prefabricated parts. The facade consists of 5050 square meters of windows and 1350 square meters of surrounding glass spandrel panels.
Due to the requirements for fall protection, the glass units were designed as safety glass.
All windows made of solar control glass ensure bright, light-flooded offices, which are an important aspect for the well-being of employees. Thanks to the Pilkington Suncool™ solar control glass, a pleasant room climate is maintained even in the warm summer months.
The very striking glass facade provides the Building 11 with a unique identity.
