Lavvo, Lakselv Airport, Banak, Norway

The Project
Lakselv Airport, Banak is an international airport located at Banak, Norway. As an extension of Lakselv airport at Terminal 2, the new Lavvo stand-alone temporary departure hall building was established in 2013-2014.

Lavvo is the Norwegian term that describes a temporary dwelling used by the Sami people of northern extremes of Northern Europe. It has a design similar to a tipi but is less vertical and more stable in high winds. The building design made by Archus Arkitekter was directly inspired by the lavvo.

In 2018-2019 the Lavvo building was converted into a conference and banquet hall with seating for up to 150 people.

The windows originally made of polycarbonate have been replaced with proper insulating glass units made of toughened Pilkington Optifloat™ Clear and toughened Pilkington Optitherm™ S3 low emissivity glass.
Insulating glass units Pilkington Insulight™ Protect provided more comfortable temperature in the Lavvo building.
