Kingsthorpe Grove Primary School, Northampton, UK

The Project

Kingsthorpe Grove Primary School in Northampton was extended and refurbished as part of Northamptonshire County Council’s plans to upgrade all schools within the area. Pilkington Planar™ was used to construct the new entrance providing a striking feature to the school. The entrance, which has now been moved away from the busy road, provides administrative facilities and a link between the foundation block and main school.

The design was particularly challenging for Pilkington’s accredited installer, Birchdale Glass Ltd, as the glass lines had to follow the intricate steel structure behind and the automatic bi-parting sliding doors were suspended from the Pilkington Planar™ double glazing.

Pilkington Planar™ compliments and provides a contemporary feel to the Edwardian Grade ll listed building, flooding it with natural daylight. The structural glazing system has helped to modernise the school, bringing it in line with 21st Century teaching and learning.
