The Oakland International Airport is located in Oakland, California and the new BART station opened in 2014 with an original transitional look. Artist Tom Patti, created the artwork specific to the airport; its appearance preserves the aesthetic integrity of an open-air environment while also representing the technologies of our time. The artwork is applied to a passive system of glasses that change their properties with direct or indirect exposure to solar radiation. In combination with proprietary interlayers, the shapes, colors, and light transmission are responsive to the site line of the viewer – from both the interior and exterior.
The new BART station in the Oakland International Airport uses Pilkington Eclipse™ Gold to accentuate the artwork throughout the airport and to improve visual performance. Selected for its distinguished style and elegance, the Pilkington Eclipse™ Gold surface provides the desired balance of daylight transmittance with solar and glare control, to embrace the desired aesthetic and environmental site requirements.
