Grunwald Fields is a famous place in Poland where the First Battle of Tannenberg took place in 1410. Grunwald Fields was declared a historical monument in 2010. One of the most famous battles of medieval Europe took place here. Every year, a performance commemorating the great battle is held here, which is watched by over 100,000 people. viewers.
Extra clear float glass Pilkington Optiwhite™ was used for glass balustrades constructed at the Monument Complex on the Grunwald Fields which was the best choice given its perfectly colourless appearance without the greenish tint seen in most other types of glass.
For safety reasons and to improve mechanical strength of the balustrade 8 and 10 mm glass has been toughened and then laminated with PVB interlayer of 1,52 mm thickness resulting in Pilkington Optilam™ OW T 17.5 mm and 21.5 mm thick laminated extra clear glass panes.
Such glass design ensures the safety of visitors, because the layers of PVB foil in the event of breakage keep the glass pieces in place, minimizing the risk of injury, and toughening increases the strength of the glass up to four times.
