Glass Walk, Sandomierz, Poland

The Project
‘Glass Walk’ is a joint initiative of the NSG Group, the District Museum and the City Hall in Sandomierz. The exhibition consists of six glass boards showing the old face of selected places in Sandomierz. Thanks to the glass boards transparency, it is possible to compare the current state of selected monuments with their historical appearance.

Residents and tourists can see, among others, the view of the former Dominican monastery with the church of St. Mary Magdalene. This glass board was made based on an aquarelle painted by Stanisław Teodor Chrząński, a self-taught painter living in the second half of the 19th century, known for painting coats of arms and views of the Kielce region.

On the other glass board visitors can admire the appearance of Podwale Górne Street recreated on a glass pane based on a photography taken by Janusz Kwiatkowski.

The ‘Glass Walk’ is a great tourist attraction and its unique and innovative nature allows for an extraordinary journey into the past. The route is also available on mobile devices via the Traseo app and in the form of a virtual walk on the official city website.

To provide visitors with a crystal-clear view and safety, special Pilkington SaniTise™ antimicrobial glass in laminated version (Pilkington SaniTise Optilam™) was used.

It is a glass coated with a photocatalytic TiO2 based coating which, when exposed to UV radiation, provides antimicrobial properties and protects against enveloped viruses.

The selection of the right type of glass for the Glass Walk boards was of paramount importance because by improving sanitation in public places and reducing the risk of infection, antimicrobial glass can help make them a healthier, cleaner and safer.

The steel structures of the glass boards were made by Pilkington IGP Sp. z o.o. Białystok Branch Metal Production.
