XII Months Zoo, Kyiv, Ukraine

The Project
Located 50 km north of Kyiv, the XII Months Zoo is Ukraine's first zoo that can be visited all year round. Spanning 16 hectares, the zoo is home to over 100 species of animals, including predators such as lions and bears, as well as the extremely rare white tiger.

To ensure visitor safety, the glazing in the rooms and enclosures is made of 33.6 mm-thick Pilkington Optilam™ Clear T toughened laminated glass. Two triple layers of 0.76 mm thick PVB film provide protection against injury by holding the glass fragments in place in the event of breakage.

In addition to large-format glazing, the laminated panes partly comprise Pilkington Optiwhite™ extra-clear glass with reduced iron content to provide visitors with better conditions for observing the animals. Free of the greenish tint visible in thicker panes, they provide greater transparency and true colour rendering.
