Haakon VIIs gate 2, Oslo, Norway

The Project
Haakon VIIs gate 2 is located in the heart of Oslo's prestigious Vika financial district, close to the City Hall, National Theatre and Concert Hall. This location provides direct access to a wide range of shops, restaurants and cultural attractions.

Designed by architect John Engh, the building opened in 1958. Its architecture reflects the functionalist principles of the period, with a clear emphasis on concrete. The austere and monumental character of the façade contrasts with the interior of the foyer and reception area, which features high-quality, noble materials. These are complemented by carefully selected impressive arrangements.

The building has undergone major renovations in recent years. Its façade has been glazed with Pilkington Mirai Insulight™ Sun Triple insulating glass units containing Pilkington Mirai Suncool™ 70/35 T solar control low-carbon toughened glass. This innovative glass provides effective protection against solar radiation and supports sustainable construction.

Pilkington Suncool™ high-performance solar control glass combines very low total solar energy transmittance with exceptionally high light transmittance. It also provides excellent thermal insulation, significantly increasing the building's energy efficiency.

Pilkington Mirai™ low-carbon glass, on the other hand, is made using modern technologies, including alternative fuels and a high proportion of recycled glass. The production process is also based on the use of renewable energy sources, resulting in a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions. Importantly, the product offers the same performance characteristics as traditional glass while having a significantly lower environmental impact. Independent studies confirm that Pilkington Mirai™ has a carbon footprint that is 52% lower than that of standard float glass.
