Pharos, Hoofddorp, the Netherlands

The Project
Cube Architecten has translated Pharos' 4 main themes into an architectural design: Maximum Health, Zero Waste, Total Energy (use of solar energy) and Vibrant Community.

The aim was to create a connecting, welcoming building that contributes to a more sustainable environment with an energy-generating façade, intelligent windows and lots of greenery.

The facade is innovative thanks to its eco-friendly components and intelligent control integrated into the curtain wall, also known as Smartskin.

Physee has provided Smartwindow components that generate energy and can control the façade functions with sensors to ensure a pleasant climate. In addition, it is combined with Pilkington Insulight™ with ScreenLine® insulating glass units with integrated Screenline® blinds.

Glass used in the project:

A total of 1,350 m² Pilkington Insulight™ Therm with Pilkington Optitherm™ S3 and Pilkington Insulight™ Therm with Pilkington Optitherm™ SI1A, of which 750 m² are being built together with Pilkington Insulight™ with ScreenLine® with internal motor and Physee Smartwindow.
(A total of 276 Pilkington Insulight™ panels with ScreenLine® windows were delivered.)

The client of this project was Cairn Real Estate Amsterdam, COARE Architectuur & Realisatie B.V. was responsible for the architectural implementation and Alkondor Hengelo was responsible for engineering, delivery and installation.
