The South Pier of Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, Finland

The Project
Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is the largest airport in Finland in terms of area and number of passengers. Due to the strong growth in international air traffic and passenger numbers, the airport is under constant development. The South Pier designed by PES-Architects is an extension of the non-Schengen area of Terminal 2. The architecture of the South Pier features open spaces filled with natural light offering comfortable places to relax and unwind.

Pilkington Suncool™ 60/31 high performance solar control glass combined with Pilkington Optiphon™ Therm S1N noise control laminated glass with low emissivity properties was used in the airport expansion project. Such glass combination ensured high energy-efficiency, excellent visibility to the outside, a high level of sound insulation and required personal safety.

The metal structures were implemented by Teräselementti Oy and insulating glass units manufactured by Lasiliiri Oy.

The South Pier of Helsinki-Vantaa Airport was put into operation on 10 July 2017.
