Darnytsia Railway Station, Kiev, Ukraine

The Project
Darnytsia was supposed to be the largest railway station in Kiev, Ukraine. It is located in the city's left-bank Darnytsia area, in the eastern part of Kiev. The railway station was built in the nineteenth century and since then it has expanded a lot. The construction of the new railway terminal complex began in 2004.

The station building was designed in a postmodern style and is a combination of three main volumes, symmetrical in relation to the main compositional axis of the complex, connected by one architectural solution of the facades.

The first stage of construction of the passenger station complex at Darnytsia station was completed in January 2007. However, the main station building with the central tunnel remains unfinished.

The first stage of the Darnytsia suburban station was opened and it serves daily over 15,500 people.

The façade of the station building was constructed with the use of glass and cladding materials in the form of ceramics and natural stone.
Solar control glass Pilkington Eclipse Advantage™ Grey was selected for the glazing of the main railway station building. This glass is perfect for commercial investments that require impressive solutions. It provides high performance solar control with medium light reflectance and transmittance. It offers also low-emissivity properties.

1000 square metres of solar control glass was supplied for this unique project.

The entire complex was meant to become second long-distance terminal in Kiev, easing the traffic tension in the main passenger railway station in the capital of Ukraine.
