Fire and noise protection barrier, Ånäs, Gothenburg, Sweden

The Project
Cycling is very popular in Sweden. It is considered a popular mode of transportation and a recreational activity for many Swedes. The country's natural landscapes, including forests, lakes, and coastal areas, make it an attractive destination for cycling enthusiasts.

Sweden has invested significantly in developing a comprehensive network of bike paths and cycling infrastructure. There are numerous designated bike paths and lanes throughout the country, especially in urban areas. Major cities like Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö have well-developed cycling infrastructure, including dedicated bike lanes, bike-friendly streets, and bike parking facilities.

Additionally, Sweden places a strong emphasis on promoting sustainable transportation, and cycling is an important part of that effort. Many employers and municipalities encourage cycling as a means of commuting, and initiatives such as bike-sharing programs are popular in several cities. The Swedish government also supports cycling infrastructure projects to improve safety and accessibility for cyclists.

To protect the cycle path that runs along the E20 road in Ånäs part of Gothenburg against noise, as well as flames in the event of a fire, the Swedish Transport Administration decided to install fire protection glass along the road on the existing retaining wall.

The choice fell on Pilkington Pyroclear
® 30-001 fire protection glass, which has been screen printed with a pattern of small dots to avoid birds flying into the glass.
