The Medisch Spectrum Twente is one of the biggest non-academic hospitals in the Netherlands. It is a top clinical center offering secondary and limited tertiary care. The ambition of the hospital was to become a patient-oriented place, offering hospitality and service and providing high-quality care. The hospital buildings needed to be pleasant to stay in, for both patients and employees.
The new building adjacent to the old hospital, designed by IAA Architects from Enschede, offers a sustainable environment with high energy efficiency. The design positively contributes to a patient experience, helping to improve health outcomes and faster recovery. The high amount of natural light entering the building interiors through all glazed areas is an important factor in achieving a healthy environment.
For the new construction of the Medisch Spectrum Twente Pilkington Nederland supplied the Pilkington Insulight™ Therm insulating glass units made of Pilkington Optitherm™ S3 low-emissivity glass, Pilkington Spandrel Glass Enamelled for the entire exterior façade and fire-resistant glass Pilkington Pyrodur®.
The façade consists of aluminium frame strips with enamelled glass panels in between. The frames were supplied and installed by Alkondor Hengelo BV.
