Life on a Leaf House, Turku, Finland

The Project

Jan-Erik Andersson's house in Turku is anything but ordinary. Andersson's family home was also part of the artist's doctoral studies. Andersson realized his unique house in collaboration with architect Erkki Pitkäranta.

The house named "Life on a Leaf" is a work of art with the handprints of many of Andersson's artist friends.

The artists involved in the project were free to realize their ideas, making their works part of the house structure. You can see their art on floors, walls, door handles, etc.

Nature plays an important role in the house design. It shapes the house. The floor plan resembles a plant leaf. Inside the house, you can also see many nature-related decorations.

Residents of this whimsical house can enjoy thermal comfort and lots of daylight thanks to low-emissivity glass Pilkington Optitherm™ SN* used in insulating glass units made by Lasiluoto Oy.

* Please note that we don't manufacture Pilkington Optitherm™ SN anymore, but we have a wide range of new Pilkington Optitherm™ low-emissivity glass products.
