aKora, Paris, France

The Project
Located on the northern esplanade of the Paris La Défense business district, this office building, formerly named Balzac, underwent a major restructuring designed by the Bouchaud Architectes agency to become aKora.

Opened at the end 2021, this new generation office building, formerly known as Balzac, is characterised by its retained rounded shape.

It faces the main square, providing clear views from inside the building and impressive views from the square and the nearby Parc Diderot for the passers-by.

The choice of the glass ensemble was therefore of great importance for aesthetics, solar control, anti-refection and anti-vandalism.

The result is a new façade comprising solar control glass Pilkington Suncool™ 70/40 and Pilkington Suncool™ 50/25, and low-emissivity glass Pilkington Optitherm™ S3, as well as coloured shadow boxes highlighted by an extra-clear glass Pilkington Optiwhite™, which offers different aspects and coloured reflections.

The main Place des Vosges square’s façade utilises Pilkington Suncool OptiView™ Ultra Protect 70/40 anti-vandalism laminated solar control glass with an anti-reflective coating on the external surface.

Building occupants also have safe access to a “green” roof complete with vegetable gardens and birdhouses – thanks to a protective railing made from extra-clear glass Pilkington Optiwhite™, offering an unobstructed panoramic view.
