Aeropark Business Centre, Warsaw, Poland

The Project
Aeropark Business Centre is a Class A office park located near Warsaw Chopin Airport. The complex was designed in the Kuryłowicz and Associates architectural studio by a team led by Prof. Stefan Kuryłowicz.

Aeropark Business Centre comprises three office buildings: Nothus, Zephirus and Corius. What they have in common are glazed façades made of Pilkington solar control, sound-absorbing and safety glass.

All glazed façades and windows of all buildings that make up the Aeropark Business Centre complex were made from more than 6,500 m² of Pilkington Insulight™ Sun insulating glass units. Combinations of several types of glass were used: Pilkington Suncool™ 50/25 high performance solar control glass, Pilkington Optiphon™ sound insulation glass, and Pilkington Optilam™ anti-burglary laminated security glass. As a result, the buildings built in the successive stages of the project form a coherent whole, and their occupants can enjoy thermal and acoustic comfort.

Multifunctional glazing

The office enclave of Aeropark Business Centre is located a short distance from the international Chopin Airport and the heavily trafficked 17 Stycznia Street. To provide an effective acoustic barrier and comfortable working conditions for users of the complex, Pilkington Optiphon™ 8,8 glass laminated with acoustic film was used for the facades and windows of the office buildings. This type of glass combined in an insulating glass unit with 8 mm thick solar control glass provides a high noise attenuation coefficient of Rw = 42 dB.

The choice of Pilkington Suncool™ 50/25 for the windows and facades contributes to reducing the energy consumption of the Aeropark Business Centre buildings. On the one hand, it makes it possible to reduce air-conditioning costs and, on the other, it reduces the energy consumption required to heat the premises. The Pilkington Suncool™ 50/25 and Pilkington Optiphon™ insulating glass units used in the façades provide very good thermal and optical performance (Ug = 1.0 W/m²K, LT = 49% and g = 27%).

For security, 9.5 mm thick Pilkington Optilam™ Clear laminated anti-burglary glass, with a security class of P4A, was used on the ground floor glazing of the complex. Pilkington Optilam™ Clear was combined with toughened Pilkington Suncool™ 50/25 T glass.

LEED Gold for the Corius building

Confirmation of the highest standards of the Aeropark Business Centre development came in 2012 when the Corius building was awarded the prestigious LEED Gold environmental certification in the ‘Core & Shell’ category. Experts evaluating the Corius building appreciated the pro-ecological solutions allowing for a significant reduction in energy and water consumption and ensuring high quality of the internal environment.
