57 Heinz Innovation Centre, Nijmegen, the Netherlands

The Project
In April 2013, Heinz's Innovation Centre, named "57", was officially opened in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Heinz is among the ten largest food companies in the world and is best known for its Tomato Ketchup. At this Innovation Centre, Heinz will work on the latest developments in food and packaging.
The Innovation Centre may be considered the largest R&D facility outside the United States. It is a building that offers openness and transparency.

Engineering firm Tebodin was involved from the conceptual design to the delivery of the building. A group of engineers from various disciplines worked closely together in a task force to create a special building in the field of architecture, sustainability and technology.

The façade of the three-storey building made of glazing set in black frames reveals subtle folds one storey high that reflect brilliant shades of grey. Pastel shades of green and yellow enhance the façade's appeal and add to its dynamism.

Pilkington Nederland supplied the Pilkington Insulight™ Sun solar control insulated glass units made of Pilkington Suncool™ 60/31. Pilkington Suncool™ 60/31 high-performance solar control glass was specified because it ensures high light transmission, excellent solar control, and low emissivity properties.
