Matkus Shopping Center, Kuopio, Finland

The Project
Matkus shopping center in Kuopio, Finland is the IKEA combined with the IKANO shopping center. It was launched in Kuopio at the end of 2012. In total, Matkus has 90 stores and 84 000 square metres.

The shopping center is particularly unusual in that it has a plastic-cell-clad façade that can be illuminated as required. The interior features curved glass surfaces and a glass façade at the entrance.

The glass façade of the Matkus shopping center has been made of Pilkington Optilam™ laminated glass and Pilkington Optitherm™ S1N low emissivity glass. Such a combination provides safety and good thermal insulation.
