Built in 1990, this office building of almost 12,000 m² over 9 floors was completely redesigned by Bouchaud Architectes on behalf of HSBC Assurances Immo and underwent a major refurbishment lasting almost two years.
The historic envelope of the building, mainly in stone and glass with opaque spandrels, was demolished and replaced by glazed structures in aluminium joinery.
The aim was to achieve greater brightness on all floors of the building, as well as energy comfort in both summer and winter, which was achieved using Pilkington Suncool™ 70/40 solar control double glazing for the majority of the project and Pilkington Suncool™ 50/25 for the curtain wall at the corner of Avenue André Malraux and Rue Greffulhe.
An interplay of shapes and colours is achieved with screens of varying widths, a smooth corner façade set back from more structured elements, opalescent 'shadow boxes' enhanced by an extra-clear Pilkington Optiwhite™ substrate and partial screen printing for a graphic effect.
Pilkington Optiwhite™ extra-clear glass is also used for the glazed balustrades in front of 180 French windows.
The metamorphosis imagined by the Bouchaud agency is total, both from an aesthetic point of view and in terms of the energy and lighting performance achieved by these different glass configurations.
