Palazzo Aurelia in the Italian town of Tortona is the headquarters of the local motorway operator. The newly built complex also houses various offices dealing with logistics-related activities, as well as a bank.
The dominant stylistic feature of the administrative building’s architecture is its sloping façade made of Pilkington Profilit™ channel glass, which alternates with the vertical window areas to form dormer-like soffits that act as sunscreens. Additional sun screening is provided by slat-type elements made of steel that are arranged on a per-storey basis.
Horizontal, double-glazed Pilkington Profilit™ is installed in the aluminium system profiles.
The double-glazed façade features a Pilkington Profilit™ Antisol channel glass with a solar control coating on surface 2 for solar protection, and Pilkington Profilit™ Wired Plus 1.7 with wire reinforcement and a low-e coating on surface 3 for thermal insulation.
The wire reinforcements in the Pilkington Profilit™ Wired Plus 1.7 channel glass emphasise the horizontal structure of the façade.
Approximately 150 m² of Pilkington Profilit™ K25 Wired Amethyst was used in the interior.
