Ganzebos West pumping station, Hengelo, the Netherlands

The Project
AkzoNobel has built a new pumping station for the new salt extraction area in Ganzebos.

The Ganzebos West pumping station is located on Eetgerinksweg street in Hengelo, the Netherlands.

A modern version of the well-known salt houses in Twente, designed by Te Kiefte Architects from Borne, was constructed with a wooden support structure. The different colours of glass represent the geological layers of the Earth. Through the glass, interested parties can see what is happening inside.

Transparency was the starting point for the design, for which Pilkington Nederland supplied the insulated glass units Pilkington Insulight™ Protect made of Pilkington Optilam™ I Colour laminated glass with coloured Vanceva® film, combined with Pilkington Optitherm™ S3 low-emissivity glass.

This combination ensures that all safety requirements are met while providing optimal thermal insulation. Alkondor Hengelo installed the glass.

Hengelo is home to one of the largest vacuum salt plants in the world. The West station houses the pumping system used to extract the salt.
