Scandic Opalen Hotel, Gothenburg, Sweden

The Project
Scandic Opalen in Gothenburg, designed by the architectural firm Krook & Tjäder, is an iconic landmark in the Heden district, built in 1962–1964 with a distinctive curved building body. The building is known for its location on Evenemangsstråket near Scandinavium and Liseberg.

Originally 11 floors high, the hotel was expanded with an additional 5 floors in 2009, containing 110 hotel rooms.

The insulating glass units for windows located on new floors were manufactured by Martin G Anderson, Örebro. The windows in the south façade are made of a double-glazed insulating glass units with sound-reducing laminated glass and solar control glass, Pilkington Suncool™ 50/25.

The hotel has undergone several renovations over the years to adapt the public areas to modern trends. It is known as one of Gothenburg's more central hotels for event visitors.
