For the first time, the new media centre of Südwestrundfunk (SWR) in Baden-Baden brings radio, television and online editorial teams together under one roof. The open-plan architecture, with its light-filled workspaces, reflects the aim of fostering creativity, teamwork and modern media production to the fullest extent.
Solar control glass as part of the innovative façade design
Pilkington Suncool™ 70/40 high performance solar control glass was used for the large window fronts. The glass was processed by Flachglas Markenkreis into INFRASTOP® Neutral 63/39 triple glazed insulating glass units, which strike the perfect balance between high light transmission (66%) and reduced heat gain. This creates a bright and welcoming working atmosphere, preventing the interior spaces from becoming overheated by sunlight.
Safety and functionality of the glazing structure
The glazing was designed as laminated glass to provide fall protection. The inner pane contains a thermal insulation coating that contributes to the building’s energy efficiency. This combination of safety, comfort, and energy savings makes this solution an ideal component of the SWR’s sustainable building concept.
Design of the glass connecting bridge
The bridge between the new and old buildings also uses Pilkington Suncool™ 70/40 as a coated outer pane in a double-glazed unit. In addition, a dot pattern applied to the glass reduces glare whilst providing design accents.
