Reichstag, Berlin, Germany

The Project
The Reichstag, elaborately refurbished government building, designed by Lord Norman Foster, with around 5,000 m² of fire-resistant glazing, is one of the largest reference projects for fire protection glass.
Spectacular is the glass wall surrounding the Bundestag chamber made of Pilkington Pyrodur® - in individual fire-resistant glass pane sizes up to 1.35 m by 2.70 m in a framing system by MBB with stylish narrow steel profiles, over a distance of 80 m to a height of 16 m – and the press lobby and glass ceiling above the centre of the chamber where the specification is particularly high performance, including specially tested protection against projectile impact along with acoustic and thermal insulation.

Pilkington Pyrodur® special G / EW 30 glass type provides additional sound insulation and breakthrough properties, and is made entirely of Pilkington Optiwhite™ to maximize light transmission.

A fire-resistant roof glazing between the plenary hall roof and press lobby ensures the light through the large Reichstag dome in the plenary hall; numerous fire-resistant partitions and double-leaf door systems with an impressive 2.80 m sash height complete the fire protection with glass.
