Lilliput Village - Poole Dorset

The Project
The famous fictional town of Lilliput is synonymous with smallness, but there is nothing small in stature about the windows in the Etoile house in the village of the same name in Poole, Dorset! Etoile is a private development which utilises the most advanced materials and systems in its construction, including the revolutionary Pilkington Activ™ Blue self-cleaning glass.

The glass was supplied by Ultra-Tough Ltd and sales director, Kevin Barlow admits that this application was beyond the usual specification. “The owner of the property wanted to use Pilkington Activ™ Blue for all of the windows,” he comments. “Normally we supply this glass for conservatories so this was a departure from the norm for us. The glass was installed in aluminium frames by Futuremost of Portsmouth and the result is stunning.”

Ultra-Tough have been strong supporters of the Pilkington Activ™ Blue concept since it was launched, using it for many projects involving conservatory installation. “This unusual application demonstrates the versatility of the Pilkington Activ™ Blue glass and its ability to be used as part of the integral design of a property,” comments Roland Sarin of Pilkington. Etoile is located overlooking the picturesque harbour of Poole and the house itself is a totally individual design. The specification of Pilkington Activ™ Blue fulfils a dual purpose. Not only is it functional, but it enhances the appearance of the exterior.

“As toughened glass manufacturers we are always interested in new applications for this unique product,” continues Kevin. “The Etoile house is an excellent example of innovation in use.”
